2017 Holy Week Art Show Call For Entries!

donum-gratia-2017

IMAGO would like to announce the 2017 Holy Week Art Show: Donum Gratia – The Gift of Grace and Mercy. Donum Gratia is hosted by the IMAGO art community at Houston’s First Baptist Church. Each artist may submit up to three pieces based on or inspired by the Christian gifts of Grace and Mercy. Art that has previously been shown at an art show in Houston’s First Baptist Church will not be accepted.

Artwork should be completed and ready to hang at the time of submission. For 2017, submissions will be made online HERE.  Images should be in JPG format, not larger than 2.5 MB & files should be labeled
Artist last name _ Artist first name – Art work #  (ie: Smith_John-1.jpg).  Be warned, if an error occurs while submitting your entry, all text data will be lost and you must start the form over (therefore, copy and paste text from another document)

Please note that an Artist Statement for each piece and how it relates to the theme will be required with each submission. Each statement has a 2000 character maximum (about 300 words). Artwork should be less than 8 ft tall x 8 ft wide and fit through the double doors at the entry of the church.

The Submission deadline is February 26th, 2017 at 11:59PM central standard time. NO late submissions will be accepted. The show will be juried, and pieces will be accepted on basis of adherence to the theme of the show, appropriateness for church venue, size and space availability. The jury and curator reserve all rights to accept or decline artwork submitted.

Notifications of acceptance will be emailed by March 12th, and selected art work will need to be hand delivered on March 29th. Artists will be required to sign a liability release upon art drop off. In 2017, the curator and IMAGO will not handle receipt and return shipment of artwork submitted by out of town artists. However, if an out of town artist would like to arrange shipment to someone they know local to Houston, that person can bring the art to drop off. A signed liability waiver will need to be shipped with the artwork and brought with the art.

Questions regarding the show and submission process can be emailed to curator@imagohouston.org.

Join the Monthly Art Challenge!

Based on feedback from our members, IMAGO has decided to try something new. At the beginning of each month, we will announce a topic. Those who wish to participate will create one piece of art depicting your interpretation of the given topic. This exercise is not meant to cause stress, but instead it is our hope that it will be a useful tool to spark creativity and let others see your work. Take a photo, draw a sketch, paint, sculpt, write a poem, or use any other medium you’d like. Once you have completed your work, submit it to our Facebook page Challenge Album.

Since this is our first challenge, you will have extra time. Get your art posted by November 30. The November Challenge album is here: https://www.facebook.com/IMAGOHouston/photos/….

With that being said, our first topic will be “everyday life.” Look around and find the extraordinary in the ordinary!

Anybody wonder how to write an Artist’s Statement?

Have we got the perfect ARTing for you! Join us at Writespace for a workshop on how to write an Artist’s Statement.

On Sunday, February 7th from 12:30 to 2:30pm, IMAGO is hosting a writing workshop at Writespace to help our artists learn about this often challenging subject. Writespace Director, Elizabeth White-Olsen, will walk us through the process. If you’d like to add the Facebook event to your calendar, you can head to this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1546221359022420/

This workshop is PERFECT for those who are new to writing Artist’s Statements but plan to submit artwork to our 2016 Holy Week Art Show in less than a month. (Yes, you read that right, less than a month. Get creating!)

We are limited to 15 attendees, so please RSVP to this link to hold your spot. We are asking for a $5 donation to Writespace as a thank you to them for providing this workshop.

For those who haven’t been to Writespace before, please follow the link below to see specific directions on how to navigate the Silver Street Studios complex as it can be confusing.
