Artist Statement

I am often moved by praise and worship songs, but few have touched me as
this one, *Heart of Worship* by Matt Redman. I find these lyrics to be
extremely convicting. Forget about the lights, the band and the people
around you and focus on the heart of worship. When I sing this song, I feel
alone with God.

While researching songs for the show, I came across an internet article
with Matt Redman on the story for this song. It was perfect. This song was
born from feelings of apathy in praise music and it was about one man’s
journey back to the real meaning of worship.

My piece is meant to convey the intersection between us and God as we come
to him in song. The painting focuses on a man’s lone figure with his
guitar. His eyes closed, his face towards the heavens as he plays for God
alone. The background of the piece is more abstract to represent the
emotion of the moment:  vulnerability of being stripped in front of the
Lord, comfort in His arms, joy at His presence, fear of His glory, and
peace in His everlasting love.

Lyrics

The Heart of Worship, by Matt Redman

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart

I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I’ll bring You more than just a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

Its all about you
Jesus
