On February 2, 2006, my son, Joshua, began his life. That was the day that
my life transformed in ways I never could have imagined. God used my son as
a catalyst to change my understanding of Him and my place in this world.
The Lord has taught me many amazing lessons through this process. The song
“Blessed Be Your Name” has inspired a piece that symbolizes the one lesson
that is both the most profound and at the core of everything else.

Whatever happens in this life, whether it be good or bad, I know God is in
control and worthy of praise.

The doctors have told me that my son will not live to adulthood. The
doctors have told me that in his last years his body will deteriorate and
fail him horribly.

I do not know if God will choose to intervene and heal my son or if He will
call Joshua home to be with Him.

All I do know is that whether Joshua lives twenty more days or twenty more
years, I will still cry out “blessed be the name of the lord.”

I praise God for the impact that my son’s life and death have and will have
on both myself and everyone around him.

Lyrics

Blessed Be Your Name, by Matt Redman

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s ‘all as it should be’
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name
